Children’s Self Defense Tournament

Compete in-house or on-line!

  • Open to all children, Little Champions up to brown belt
  • Choice to compete from home or in-house at the Stittsville dojo
  • Medals for all divisions
  • Points awarded for participation and finishing positions, to be counted towards the 2020 overall winner. A modified sparring tournament will be conducted in December (sparring skills not matches) to round our our annual tournament series. Competitors with the most points at each belt level (white belt up to brown belt) will have their names added to the in-house plaques as well as being awarded a trophy. (*Overall standings and sparring tournament doesn’t apply to Little Champions)
  • Students in each division will be performing the same techniques (videos will be posted shortly)
  • $10 plus HST for Little Champions and $20 plus HST for white belts and up.
  • Sparring tournament date and rules to be announced shortly. Fees for students who competed in the Self Defense Tournament, will be $10 plus HST.
Rules and Videos – Little Champions
  1. Competitors must arrange to have a family member or someone within their social bubble to act as a partner.
  2. Competitors will have to be available, either in-house or on Zoom when called to demonstrate their technique.
    (*In-house competitors will be given approximate times to arrive to compete)
  3. Competitors must be in uniform to compete.
  4. Little Champions will perform the assigned technique
  5. When called, competitor will position themselves on the spot that they will be demonstrating the technique. If you are participating on-line, the judges may ask you to reposition yourself or your camera as to have the best view of your technique
  6. If you are participating on-line, your microphone will be required to be unmuted once you are called. While you are waiting for your turn or after you have completed your technique, you will be required to mute your microphone.

  4. Competitors will demonstrate the technique assigned to their belt level.
  5. When called, competitor will position themselves on the spot that they will be demonstrating the technique. If you are participating on-line, the judges may ask you to reposition yourself or your camera as to have the best view of your technique
  6. If you are participating on-line, your microphone will be required to be unmuted once you are called. While you are waiting for your turn or after you have completed your technique, you will be required to mute your microphone.

  1. Competitor bows and then takes a horse stance to deliver their speech.
    – The speech consists of a greeting as follows, “Hello Judges, my name is _____. With your permission I would like to demonstrate (name of technique).”
  2. When the centre judge nods, the student thanks the judges, retakes their ready stance and bows.
  3. Partner joins competitor and grabs him/her in the assigned hold.
  4. Competitor will then demonstrate their technique in slow motion using dynamic tension until the throw or takedown but does not complete the throw or takedown. Instead, the competitor steps back into a guard stance.
  5. Students restart the technique so it can be demonstrated with speed, focus, power and kiai.
  6. When the technique is done the competitor holds their guard stance until their partner stands up into a guard stance of their own.
  7. Facing the judges/camera, competitor returns to a ready stance and bows.
